In each level the Kongs must reach the end while avoiding enemies and obstacles. The worlds are themed after locations that Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong visit such as a jungle a beach and a factory. The game includes eight worlds each with several levels. New to the 3DS port are items that can be collected to provide assistance such as invincibility stars and balloons that allow the Kongs to double-jump. The Kongs can defeat enemies by jumping on them or using projectiles in the 3DS port the Kongs can also use the stereoscopic 3D effect to target enemies and dodge attacks. The Kongs can walk run jump and roll and must use these abilities to avoid obstacles and enemies and reach the end of each level. The game is a sidescrolling platformer in which players control Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as they progress through levels collected within an overworld map. The gameplay of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is similar to that of its Wii predecessor Donkey Kong Country Returns.
The game is scheduled for release in Japan on Jin North America on Jin Europe on Jand in Australia on June 27 2013. It is a port of the 2010 Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns with the addition of stereoscopic 3D visuals new artwork and other game changes.
